| Top News:  A member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly said the archipelago's current defenses are sufficient, in response to questions raised in Westminster over the maintenance of the armed forces and the equipment deployed in the islands.
 The United States government removed Venezuela and Bolivia from the category of countries that Washington says have failed to demonstrably combat international drug trafficking, while keeping Colombia, Afghanistan and Myanmar on that list. The determination, sent to Congress on Tuesday and released by the State Department on Wednesday, is part of the annual assessment of the 23 countries deemed major drug transit or producing states, five of which had been designated last year as having "failed demonstrably."
 Argentina's foreign ministry expressed its "strongest rejection" on Tuesday of the guidance the British government published the previous day for companies conducting economic activity in the Falklands, and said it would continue applying its legislation against firms operating hydrocarbons in the area without Argentine authorization.
 Lawyers for former Argentine president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said on Tuesday they have added a new element to the petition they are pursuing before the UN Human Rights Committee, seeking to overturn her final conviction in the Vialidad case and, more immediately, to set aside the lifetime ban from public office that prevents her from running in next year's presidential election.
 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed on Wednesday that Canada become the European Union's first "associate member," a status not provided for in the bloc's treaties and whose details have not been defined.
